Current Topic - The Ancient Greeks - Spring Term 5

At the beginning of this term, English and maths sessions will be centred around revising all content necessary in order to make the final preparations for SATs that are taking place during W/C 13th May. We will begin our new history topic of 'The Ancient Greeks' and will explore famous gods, goddesses and heroes. In our history lessons, we will consider where the Ancient Greeks appear in history and the civilisations that were around before and after them. We will use primary and secondary sources within our lessons to better understand this period of history. In addition to this, we will be reading and exploring the text Pandora's Box within our reading and writing sessions. Within our writing, we will be exploring powerful Greek gods and goddesses and creating balanced arguments as to why one god is more powerful than another during whole class debates and in writing opportunities.

Within our science lessons, we will be exploring how to live a healthy lifestyle and why this is important for our bodies. We will consider what a balanced diet is, the importance of sport and exercise on the body and how different substances can affect the body negatively. Similarly, in our Life Education lessons, we will explore how we can keep ourselves safe in a variety of scenarios and precautions we can take to uphold our safety.

Our P.E. days remain on Wednesday and Friday. In our Wednesday lessons, our focus will be dodgeball and on Fridays it will be 'Outdoor Adventurous Activities' (OAA). Please ensure that your child is sent in wearing the correct P.E. kit these days: black/navy shorts, a plain white/dark blue t-shirt and pair of trainers. As the weather is getting warmer, please ensure that your child has a sunhat, a cold drink and wears sunscreen (as and when necessary).

Reminders and Routines
  • Children should be reading at least 5 times a week - please ask them to tell you what they are reading about.
  • Children should be practising their time tables - including the related division facts. This could be done using Time Tables Rockstars.
  • Children should be learning their spellings every day so that they are known "for life".
  • When they come to school, they need to bring a water bottle.
  • Take time during the week to complete their homework - they will get a piece of Maths and English each week. You can always check what homework has been set by looking in Google Classroom.
PE Days

PE will take place on a Wednesday and Friday. Children should come to school dressed in their PE Kit.
